Hace unas semanas fotografiamos a Megan y Vin, quienes vinieron a Guatemala para celebrar su Destination Wedding en Antigua Guatemala. Un día antes de la boda celebraron su fiesta Mehndi.
Mehndi, conocida también como Henna, es una forma de arte corporal muy antigua que se originó en Egipto y se asocioa con espíritus positivos y buena suerte. Una fiesta Mehndi es una celebración previa a la boda en la cultura Hindú y Sij, cuando a la novia se le aplica mehndi/henna rojo-naranja a sus palmas, dorso de las manos y pies. Generalmente se celebra un día antes de la boda como una forma de desearle a la novia buena salud y prosperidad en su matrimonio. Esta celebración se caracteriza por el colorido y la belleza de los vestidos “Sarees” utilizados por la novia e invitadas. Fotografiar una fiesta Mehndi es una experiencia muy interesante!
Tengo tantas fotos lindas que quisiera ponerlas todas, por espacio solo muestro unas cuantas que reflejan la alegría y la buena vibra que se sintió en ese día. El trabajo de Henna fue realizado por una gran artista -Darcy Vasudev @hennalounge- que también vino a Guatemala para esta celebración.

A few weeks ago we photographed Megan and Vin, who came to Guatemala to celebrate their Destination Wedding in Antigua Guatemala. A day before de wedding they had their Mehndi Party.
Mehndi, otherwise known as henna, is an ancient form of body art originating in Egipt and associated with positive spirits and good luck. A Mehndi party is the pre-wedding celebration in Hindu and Sikh culture when the bride has the red-orange mehndi “stain” applied to her palms, back of hands, and feet. Typically held the day before the wedding as a way of wishing the bride good health and prosperity as she makes her journey on to marriage. This celebration is highlighted by the colorful decoration and beauty of the Sarees used by the bride and guests. Photographing a Mehndi party is a very interesting experience!
I have so many beautiful photographs that I wanted to show them all but because space, I only show a few that reflect the joy and good vibes felt on that day. Henna’s work was done by a great artist -Darcy Vasudev @hennalounge – who also came to Guatemala for this celebration.

The photos are so beautiful, it was such a lovely day. One little correction, henna originated in Egypt, not India. India was late to the henna game, only getting it around the time of the Mughal invasion . But India has made contemporary henna famous for the intricate designs! Can’t wait to see the rest of the wedding photos!
